PROGRAM:
Students are to design the Nashville Trail of Tears Memorial to be situated on the grounds of the historic Hermitage, the same land of the president who pushed the Indian Removal Act through congress and ultimately signed the law. This building will serve as a memorial to the Cherokee removal and will include a museum space telling the story of the Trail of Tears. It will serve as a bridge to the greater Nashville community, with shared public uses including a state of the art auditorium, classrooms, and other gathering spaces.
REQUIREMENTS:
Parking (minimum 40 spots)
Outdoor public space with parking
Main Lobby with info center/welcome desk
6 Gender Neutral, Single Bathrooms (adjacent to main lobby)
Auditorium (Minimum 50 seats)
Visiting Scholar's Suite (including 2 offices, storage, and 1 bathroom)
Artifact/Research library (500 sf)
4 Offices (100 sf minimum)
1 Conference Room (250 sf minimum)
Office Storage (200 sf)
Building Storage (5% building gross floor area)
